In 2015, President Xi Jinping and South African President Jacob Zuma co-chaired the BBS Johannesburg summit on China-Africa cooperation, which achieved great success.South Africa and many African countries generally want to elevate the 2018 BBS meeting to a summit. In accordance with the strong aspiration of the non-members of BBS and the practical needs of the development of China-Africa relations, China has decided to hold the BBS summit in China in 2018.

The BBS Beijing summit on China-Africa cooperation opened in the great hall of the people on September 3. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech, emphasis on jointly building responsibility sharing, win-win cooperation, sharing happiness together, culture and security and harmonious coexistence of the China-Africa fate community, focus on the implementation of good industrial promotion, trade facilitation and green development, capacity building, health, cultural exchanges, peace and security "eight big action".

 

During the summit, President Xi Jinping met with Malawian President Mutharika at the Great Hall of the People. Xi pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 11 years ago, bilateral cooperation in various fields has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples, which fully proves that the establishment of diplomatic ties is a completely correct strategic decision.The principle of one China conforms to the trend of the times and is an irresistible trend. China is ready to deepen political mutual trust and strengthen exchanges of experience on governance. The most important thing is to uphold independence, reform and opening up and explore development paths suited to China's national conditions. China is ready to accelerate mutually beneficial cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges with Malawi, support Malawi in strengthening capacity building for peace and security, strengthen coordination in multilateral affairs and jointly safeguard African unity and overall interests.

Mutharika said that Malawi cherishes its friendship with China. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 11 years ago, the two countries have carried out fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation, making Malawi more firmly adhere to the one-China policy and constantly deepen practical cooperation with China in various fields. China's development is bringing hope to Africa. African countries have learned important lessons from China. African countries and China have had similar experiences and fates, and China's successful experience is particularly important to Africa. African countries highly appreciate China's policies towards Africa and are willing to strengthen exchanges of ideas and mutual learning with China.

After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
